5 People Who Made an Impact on Me in 2015

Editors(?!) Note: This is an old post from January 4th of 2016. I'm posting it today in an effort to not fill this site with garbage. I'd rather post old content that I think is good than new, crap garbage. You won't have seen this post before so enjoy.

Do you ever just “vibe” with someone or feel like they “get” you? You see them in a youtube video and think that you must have been separated at birth, so you proceed to trawl through every video they’ve ever put up and love every single one. Those people are important. They have the ability to create a subtle shift in you, to help you grow and expand.

Every time we’re introduced to one of these new people. One of these, as I like to call them, online encounters. You learn who they are, what they believe, how they work, what they do, everything.  Although it’s quite a one-sided relationship, you can stand to gain a lot from what they put out into the world. If you listen and take note.

I believe that people come into our lives when we are ready to learn from them. They, in many ways, represent the changes we want to see in ourselves and hopefully with what we learn from them, those changes will be realised.

Over the last year, I’ve had many of these encounters, some I was completely ready for, some I had outgrown and some were just a little too far out for me. Below I share with you my 5 newest additions and hope that you can get as much out of them as I have.

5 One-Sided Relationships That Can Inherently Change You

Have you witnessed Casey yet? YouTube extradinnaire, Husband, Father of 2, Dream chaser and wise way beyond his years. Casey Neistat has become somewhat of an addiction. Posting videos daily, you get a brief glimpse of his life in New York, his new business Beme, his life in general and his amazing thoughts on how the world works.

Casey has worked with video nearly his entire life and as such his blogs are masterpieces in comparison to many of the other “here’s what I did with my day” types.

At 17 Casey left his childhood home only to end up a teen father living in a trailer park. Through nothing but hustle and hard work he is pretty much living his dream life. He reminds himself of this quite regularly which I personally think is amazing.

As far as lessons go, I wouldn’t even know where to start. But some amazing youtube has edited all his life lessons from his first hundred blogs I’ll post that below. The other few hundred you’ll just have to watch.

Louise Hay

I actually came across Lousie one night in bed while roaming around Youtube looking for a night-time meditation for sleep. I listened, fell asleep half way through and woke up feeling fabulous. Obviously, I continued to listen for weeks on end.

Her predominant philosophy is one of self-love. Her guidance in helping you do the inner work required to create the outer results you want is overwhelmingly supportive. Even through a video, book or meditation.

Her book “You Can Heal Your Life” is outright amazing. As you read it you feel like it was written specifically for you. A personal plan of how to create internal shifts that will have a dramatic ripple effect in your life. Learning to love yourself, for some, can be one of the hardest things to do. But so beneficial in a myriad of ways.

I am a long, long way off loving myself but every day, through implementing her practices I can feel myself improving and expanding.

What I Learned from Louise

By far, the most benificial thing I learned from my encounters with Loiuse is the importance of loving and respecting yourself.  It’s not something that comes to mind too regularly. More frequently you will hear the voice in your head berate you, tell you what’s wrong, gossip,  give out about people and tell you why you can’t. It’s a never-ending cycle. The more you give out about things, whether it be yourself, your circumstances or the outside world the more you’ll notice and have more to give out about.

Louise came to know these ideologies a very long time ago, long before science could back it up, some of her comments are still under scrutiny, but what I have experienced so far has been amazing. So whether it be science, NLP, brainwashing or the placebo effect I fully stand behind what I have seen of Louise and her work and would highly recommend her to anyone.

Iconic in their own right, Alex and Mimi are the poster children for Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week. Each with their own youtube channel on differing topics they come together to form the ultimate power couple. The pair have literally created a4 hour work week and lived through my biggestfear of succeeding. When you only have to work four hours in a week, what do you do in your spare time?

Multiple businesses have been started and grown by them and I can only see more to come in the future.

What I’ve learned

Considering that previous to their millionaire status they were unemployed, the pair have really taught me that anybody can change their life and status. They both speak very passionately about being grateful and as such I have tried to incorporate that into my daily life.

Marie Kondo

If you haven’t heard of Marie Kondo yet... just google her, you’re truly missing out. Her Book was brought to me a few months ago when I was once again sick of trying to get my home in order. I read the whole thing in a day and have been slowly implementing her practices to the different areas of my home.

Her process really is life changing, not in a “oh my God, my house is so clean” kind of way, but more a “I am surrounded by things I love, I feel clearer in my home and less stressed”.

What I learned

How succinctlytransforming it can be to create a change in my home. Your surroundings literally have a knock on effect on how you feel and live your daily life.

Gary Vaynerchuck

Business owner, Wine aficionado, Social Media Mogul, Author, Youtuber, the list goes on. Gary Vee, when I first met him on youtube, did NOT strike the right cord with me at all. Crude, in your face, blunt, hyperactive tendencies, the works. The reasons I love Gary Vee? Crude, in your face, blunt, hyperactive tendencies, the works.

Sometimes in life you need a person to tell you what you don’t want to hear, which is exactly why I initially didn’t like him and why I now do. His blunt answers can sting a touch, especially when you want someone to baby you and bathe you in sympathy. GaryVee = Tough Love.

I can be quite airy-fairy at times and live with my head in the clouds a lot but Garys cutting remarks will keep me on the right path for the foreseeable future. He is the reason, I no longer bemoan the fact that I have to write an article for my blog or don’t have any subscribers.

Because realistically I don’t have to write an article or need any subscribers, I can live my life blogless and subscriberless until death but I don’t want to. And that’s the thing, you don’t need to do anything but if you want to achieve greatness or hit your peak or cross every item off your bucket list you HAVE to put the effort in.

What I have learned.

When it comes to GaryVee, if you’ve watched any of his videos or read anything of his, you know my answer to this question.

You have to hustle. You can live any life you like, but if you want anything thats outside of your current norm you have to hustle. And with his in your face approach, you’ll be hustlin’ in no time.

And there you have it

5 people who have come into my life in the last year and made a significant impact. I’m unbelievably grateful that I’ve come across them and hope to meet each of them in the future.

What about you? Have you anybody worth recommending? A good book or vlog? I’m always on the lookout for interesting people online.
